Loch Cill Chriosd, Isle of Skye, Scotland, is a very picturesque lochan encountered along Strath Suardal, which is reached from the Broadford to Elgol road, near to Torrin. Terrific views of Blaven, (Bla Bheinn) of the Black Cuillin, and Beinn na Caillich, of the Red Cuillin to be seen.
Also spelt as "Kilchrist", and the Loch is sometimes referred to as Loch Suardal.

LONG EXPOSURE IMAGES

]]>A gallery of images created using Long Exposures.

I use B+W Circular Filters, such as the Ten Stop ( 110 ) Neutral Density, for very long exposures. This can also be employed on those all too frequent dull days. Plus, the Six Stop ( 106 ) B+W Neutral Density, which does give quite a strong colour cast, easily corrected in Photoshop Camera Raw .... or a Polarising Filter ( B+W), which can be used as a two stop ND Filter, plus occasionally, the Square Graduated Neutral Density Filter, mostly the 0.9 ( 3 stops ). This will sometimes be used in combination with a Polarising filter. Which filter I use will, of course, depend upon the light, time of day, and my vision of what I want the end product to look like. I will either process a single RAW file, or on rare occasions now, use three RAW files processed in Photomatix as HDR. My preference these days is to use a far less destructive and coarse method, by Layer Blending two or three RAW files giving a much cleaner and more natural image, with far finer detail and much less noise than the HDR process creates.
Naturally, a sturdy tripod is required when making Long Exposure images.

Pictures of Elgol, Isle of Skye, Scotland, which is a tiny fishing village reached at the end of a twisting and narrow hill road from Broadford, through Strath Suardal and the crofting village of Torrin, on the shores of Loch Slapin, then along the Strathaird Peninsula with broad views to the mainland of Scotland. When you finally arrive at the bottom of the very steep hill, you have a grandstand view across Loch Scavaig to the very beautiful Cuillin Mountains.
Take a boat trip to Loch Coruisk !
One of the most scenic landscapes in the UK, and in my opinion, most photogenic !!

Cill Chriosd ruin, ( ..known also as Kilchrist.. ) was reputedly once the Manse of the Minister of Strath for the old Kirk in Strath Suardal, who left in 1824. At one time, there were believed to be eight dwellings on the site, it is now frequented by Sheep, Ravens, and the occasional Golden Eagle.
Site of an old Marble Quarry and the only railway on Skye !

The Isle of Skye, Scotland, is now connected to the Scottish Mainland by a Bridge, from Kyle of Lochalsh. There is a full 360 degree breathtaking panorama from the bridge, with views that are hard to beat anywhere...but maybe I am biased a little !!
The Bridge spans the tiny island, "Eilean Ban", which was once the home of Gavin Maxwell, author of "Ring of Bright Water", and many other books. It is now run by the Eilean Ban Trust, as a wildlife sanctuary. There is a well preserved Stevenson Lighthouse on the island. http://www.eileanban.org/
The Isle of Skye is one of the islands of the Inner Hebrides.
